Around the same time the manga ended in 1979, Tezuka and Sanrio teamed up to make a pilot episode to hopefully have a Unico TV series. The pilot (titled ‘Unico: Kuroi Kumo to Shiroi Hane’) wasn’t quite enough to create a TV series but two movies followed later on.

In 1981, Sanrio and Tezuka teamed up once again with a full length feature film titled Unico (The Fantastic Adventures of Unico in America). The film included other characters from the manga such as Akuma-kun, Chao, and Danshaku.

The next feature film came out in 1983 and was titled Unico: Mahou no Shima e (Unico in the Island of Magic in America). While the story line wasn’t anything related to the manga, the Sphinx’ daughter did make an appearance.

Unico has also been featured in other movies such as ‘Garasu no Chikyuu o Sukue’ Unico Tokubetsuhen which features Unico on yet another adventure to save the planet and help others.
